The Atucha I Life Extension Project has reached 60% completion. The plant that launched nuclear power generation in Latin America in 1974 is undergoing a comprehensive overhaul that will enable it to begin its second operating cycle and keep supplying safe, efficient and reliable electricity to the Argentine Interconnection System.

The scope covers planned interventions on the plant's main systems and components, along with engineering, manufacturing, assembly and logistics work demanding the highest levels of expertise. Several of these activities are being performed for the first time in the country, using solutions developed by Nucleoeléctrica teams together with Argentine industry.

The project involves hundreds of Argentine workers and companies, which take part in manufacturing components, providing services and carrying out specialized tasks. In this way, the work creates skilled jobs and drives the development of local suppliers throughout its value chain.

Nucleoeléctrica has proven experience in projects of this kind. The Embalse life extension, successfully completed, allowed that plant to begin a new 30-year operating cycle, and that precedent supports every stage of the work now under way at Atucha I.

With more than half the road behind it, each step forward represents an investment in the future of Argentine nuclear power generation: it secures the continuity of a reliable, clean energy source, strengthens the country's technological capabilities and consolidates strategic knowledge for the national nuclear industry.
