The Atucha II Nuclear Power Plant has resumed supplying electricity to the Argentine Power System after completing its Annual Scheduled Outage and successfully reconnecting to the Argentine Interconnection System.
As a result, the plant returned to service ahead of schedule, once again ensuring a safe and efficient electricity supply for millions of Argentinians.
The 2026 scheduled outage began in mid-March and represented a key stage in the plant’s regular operating cycle, allowing maintenance, inspection, and upgrade activities to be carried out under safe and controlled conditions.
During the process, approximately 1,700 people worked in coordination to complete more than 5,500 tasks across different plant systems and components.
The main activities included internal inspections of reactor components, inspection and cleaning of steam generators, maintenance of emergency diesel engines, replacement of cooling system components, functional testing, and verification of protection and control systems.
These tasks, which cannot be performed while the plant is operating at power, make it possible to thoroughly assess equipment conditions, implement improvements, and reinforce the plant’s safety and reliability standards.
Throughout the outage, Argentina’s Nuclear Regulatory Authority maintained a continuous presence at the plant through specialized inspectors, who supervised the proper execution of the work and verified compliance with the requirements established in the Operating License.
In this way, Nucleoeléctrica Argentina continues to strengthen an operation based on safety, planning, and continuous improvement, in line with the best practices of the nuclear industry.
About Atucha II
The Atucha II Nuclear Power Plant began supplying electricity to the grid in June 2014. The plant is located on the right bank of the Paraná River, in the town of Lima, Zárate district, 100 kilometers from the City of Buenos Aires, and has a gross electrical output of 745 MWe.
Atucha II incorporates the operational experience gained from Atucha I and complies with all local and international requirements. Like all Argentine nuclear power plants, it operates under a license granted by the Nuclear Regulatory Authority.
