Embalse Nuclear Power Plant celebrates 20 years of excellence in its environmental management system

Embalse Nuclear Power Plant celebrates its 20th anniversary of continuous compliance with its environmental management certification, reaffirming its commitment, since day one, to generate clean and safe energy for the country.

Tuesday 14 November 2023

Embalse, like the rest of the company's facilities, certifies its environmental management system according to ISO 14001 standards, granted by Bureau Veritas.

This standard requires the organization to certify an environmental management plan that includes: environmental objectives and goals, policies and procedures to achieve those goals, defined responsibilities, personnel training activities, documentation, and a system to control any changes and progress made. Additionally, the standard outlines the process the company must follow and requires compliance with national environmental laws.

As part of the activities for this anniversary, 1000 seedlings of White Carob were distributed to the plant's personnel. These seedlings were provided by the Secretary of Environment of the Province of Córdoba as part of the native tree and plant afforestation program.

Clean Energy

Nuclear power plants are subject to the highest safety standards and undergo rigorous monitoring.

Nuclear energy contributes to the compliance of the Kyoto Protocol through its competitiveness and reduction of CO2 emissions. This energy source does not produce greenhouse gases or particles, which are major contributors to climate change.

Environmental care is part of every phase of the construction, production, and protection of workers, the public, and the environment.

The company adopts an environmental policy that focuses on continuously aligning environmental management with applicable regulations, promoting personnel training in environmental care, communicating its environmental policy, assessing potential risks of new projects, minimizing environmental impacts during execution, and continually improving environmental performance.

Furthermore, we are committed to caring for our surroundings, the neighboring communities around nuclear plants, and the people who live there.

It also features projects such as an organic garden on the premises of the Atucha Nuclear Site and the Causachi wildlife reserve in an area adjacent to the Embalse Nuclear Power Plant. The garden has five thousand square meters where various types of vegetables are cultivated and includes a greenhouse and fruit trees. Meanwhile, the reserve covers nine hectares dedicated to protecting species of local fauna and flora.
