The nuclear industry is undergoing a period of global expansion. According to the World Nuclear Association’s anual Report 2026, global nuclear capacity could reach 1,457 GWe by 2050, surpassing the goal of tripling capacity from 2020 levels, driving the development of new projects and increasing demand for specialized knowledge, technology and services.

This growth is not limited to the construction of new nuclear power plants. It also requires expertise to operate and maintain existing facilities, extend their service life, implement upgrades and develop solutions for increasingly complex projects.

Argentina has more than five decades of experience in the nuclear sector. At Nucleoeléctrica, we operate Atucha I, Atucha II and Embalse and have developed expertise in operations, engineering, maintenance and the management of complex projects.

One of the main examples is Embalse Nuclear Power Plant. We completed its life extension project, developing specific expertise in refurbishment, modernization and the operation of CANDU technology. We are now carrying out a similar process at Atucha I.

This expertise extends beyond our own nuclear power plants. Our track record enables us to provide services and technical assistance to operators in other countries and to contribute to projects that require specialized nuclear knowledge.

The expansion of the nuclear sector is therefore creating new opportunities for Argentina’s nuclear industry. At Nucleoeléctrica, we are taking our experience to international markets and turning decades of nuclear expertise into services for new projects and operators.
