The MOU will leverage the complementary capabilities of both organizations who share a long history of collaboration and strong technical expertise in the nuclear industry. The MOU will build on this relationship with the organizations agreeing to jointly support life extension projects, unit outages, and future nuclear developments in Canada and internationally, while enabling Candu Energy to contribute to opportunities within Argentina’s nuclear program as they arise.
During the event, the President of Nucleoeléctrica Argentina, Dr. Demian Reidel, emphasized that “the world is experiencing a nuclear renaissance, and Argentina is ready to play a leading role in this new chapter. The signing of this agreement with Candu Energy reflects our ability to transform decades of accumulated experience and technical excellence into concrete value. It is not only about selling services, but about projecting Argentine nuclear expertise onto the international stage.”
Government of Canada-owned CANDU technology is internationally recognized for its reliability and efficiency. In Argentina, the Embalse Nuclear Power Plant (Córdoba Province) stands out as one of the best-performing examples of this technology, thanks to more than four decades of operation and the successful life-extension work carried out by Nucleoeléctrica Argentina. This trajectory positions the company as a strong provider of world-class services in life extension, modernization, and maintenance of CANDU plants.
Nucleoeléctrica Argentina is also advancing strategic projects such as the life extension of the Atucha I Nuclear Power Plant and the construction of the second dry storage facility for spent fuel. These initiatives reinforce the company’s technical capabilities and expand its potential to offer engineering and operational nuclear services internationally.
This agreement represents a decisive step toward projecting the Argentine nuclear industry into the global market for specialized services, reaffirming the country’s commitment to technological development, energy security, and the creation of international value.
