Nucleoeléctrica Argentina marks its 32nd anniversary as operator of Argentina's three nuclear power plants and as one of the leading companies in the region's nuclear industry.
Since its creation in 1994, the company took over the operation of Atucha I and Embalse, completed the construction of Atucha II and delivered the life extension of the Embalse nuclear power plant. It is currently advancing with the life extension of Atucha I, one of its strategic projects. That track record has consolidated technical capabilities and a culture of excellence that today reach well beyond power generation.
The anniversary finds the company developing a new business unit focused on exporting nuclear services. This line of work turns the technical, operational and human expertise built over decades into an offering for the international market, covering engineering, maintenance, component manufacturing and professional training.
In August, Nucleoeléctrica's Board approved a new organizational structure to support the development of its business units, with a focus on the export of specialized nuclear services. The decision formalizes within the organization an activity the company was already carrying out, and provides the structure required to deliver that expertise professionally and consistently.
"Over more than five decades, Argentina has built technical, operational and human expertise that today holds value in the international market," said Juan Martín Campos, President of Nucleoeléctrica. "That recognition is not claimed, it is earned by operating well every single day. It is our greatest asset."
A track record of excellence behind the offering
The experience supporting that offering was built at the company's own facilities. Nucleoeléctrica delivered the life extension of the Embalse nuclear power plant, the first ever carried out on an Argentine plant, enabling a second 30-year operating cycle. It is currently undertaking the same type of project at Atucha I, aiming to add 20 years of operation to the first nuclear power plant in Latin America.
The company also completed the construction of Atucha II, today the country's most powerful nuclear plant with 745 MW, incorporating into its operation the capabilities developed over decades of experience in the sector.
Complementary infrastructure adds to those projects. The company is advancing with the construction of the dry spent fuel storage facility at Atucha II, engineered in Argentina, which helps secure the plant's long-term operational continuity.
A regional leader with international presence
Nucleoeléctrica has developed proprietary solutions for CANDU technology plants and has taken part in projects and services for nuclear facilities in several countries. This activity draws on highly specialized capabilities that are uncommon in the global market, including reactor retubing, one of the industry's most demanding operations.
The experience gained in operation, maintenance and major projects positions Nucleoeléctrica as a regional leader with the capabilities to compete and provide services in the international nuclear market.
The global context supports this outlook. Energy demand continues to grow and a significant number of plants worldwide are approaching the end of their first operating cycle, a scenario that widens the opportunities for life extension, engineering and specialized maintenance services.
