Nucleoeléctrica Argentina reached a new historic mark of net annual power generation during 2021.

Wednesday 9 February 2022

Thus, Atucha I, Atucha II and Embalse nuclear power plants generated 10,169,694 MWh, with a total load factor of 71.50%.

The generation of the last year places the operating company of the Argentine nuclear power plants in sixth place within the podium of business groups that generate energy in Argentina and represents 7.17% of the total produced nationwide.

Likewise, in July 2021 Nucleoeléctrica achieved the all-time record for monthly power generation, since the plants generated 1,101,359 MWh.

Nuclear power plants in our country have been breaking records year after year. In 2020, the company also closed the year with excellence rates, which were exceeded during 2021 with an even higher increase in its production.

Clean and safe energy

The net generation of the Argentine nuclear power plants during the last year allowed savings of 4.7 million tons of CO2. This figure is equivalent to supplying the residential energy consumption of more than 7 million people.

Nuclear power plants do not depend on seasonal or climatic factors for their operation and are key in the fight against climate change and on the path to energy transition, because they do not generate gases or particles that cause the greenhouse effect, a responsible factor for global warming.

In this way, nuclear energy is established as a key sector for the Argentine reconstruction: it generates employment, technological development and electricity, safely and reliably for the country.

In this sense, in addition to operating Atucha I, II and Embalse, Nucleoeléctrica is advancing in the development of Atucha III, the fourth nuclear power plant to be built in Argentina and which will have gross electrical power of 1,200 MWe.

Likewise, the company is carrying out Atucha I Life Extension Project, which will allow it to extend its operation for 24 years at full power.
