In this case, the company provides advice on the retubing of the reactor at Qinshan 3 Nuclear Power Plant in China, which is beginning phase 1 of its refurbishment project.
Retubing is a key process for extending the life of Candu-type power plants, which consists of removing the main components that make up the reactor and replacing them with new components.
Patricia Salvetti and Franco Borghetti, who worked on the life extension of the Embalse Nuclear Power Plant, are working on this new challenge. Both are members of Nucleoeléctrica Argentina Nucleoeléctrica Argentina Power Plant Services Management, a sector that already has the experience of having provided technical assistance to other plants abroad.
The agreement with the Chinese National Nuclear Corporation and the first work order were signed last year. In this first stage, Patricia, Franco and a multidisciplinary group worked on the review and preparation of the documentation required by China, which has already been sent. In a next phase, it is considered that members of Nucleoeléctrica travel to the Asian country to work in situ at the plant.
"Providing assistance to a power in the field of nuclear energy such as China fills us with pride and positions us as a benchmark in the world," says Patricia.
In addition to technical assistance, the package of services includes advice on the management of human capital and resources, which is novel in this type of contracting.
Nucleoeléctrica Argentina is the company in charge of the operation of the three nuclear power plants in operation in Argentina: Atucha I, Atucha II and Embalse.
It also deals with the commercialization in the Wholesale Electricity Market of the energy produced by its plants and the management of projects that ensure the normal operation of its facilities, as well as the construction of two nuclear power plants in the national territory and other projects in the country or abroad derived from nuclear participation in energy transition.
