Nucleoeléctrica signed a memorandum of understanding to provide services to Romania's nuclear power plants

Nucleoeléctrica Argentina S.A. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nuclearelectrica, the company that operates Romania's nuclear power plants, with the aim of providing services and support for the life extension of its units.
The agreement is part of the new approach the company is pursuing: turning the capabilities built up over decades of operation and complex project execution into a services platform for the global market. This new business unit will broaden the company's revenue sources, generate foreign currency and give international reach to the experience developed by the Argentine nuclear industry.
The Romanian plants, located at Cernavoda, use CANDU technology, the same technology as the Embalse Nuclear Power Plant in the province of Córdoba. That shared technological basis positions Nucleoeléctrica as a partner with direct, proven experience in the kind of project Romania intends to undertake.
The foundation of that experience is the life extension of the Embalse Nuclear Power Plant, the first carried out on an Argentine plant and a project few countries in the world have completed. Successfully finished, it opened a new 30-year operating cycle for the plant and consolidated engineering, management and execution capabilities that are now being strengthened by the work under way at Atucha I.
The MoU adds to the company's growing record in the global market. It includes the first international sale of components developed by Nucleoeléctrica for CANDU reactors, completed together with Candu Energy Inc.; technical assistance to the Qinshan nuclear power plant in China for work related to reactor retubing; and the training of professionals from international operators, such as the instruction given to South Korean nuclear personnel drawing on the project carried out at Embalse.
A new business unit for the global market
The agreement reached with the Romanian operator is a concrete step in building a business unit focused on the international commercialization of nuclear services and on making the most of the capabilities developed by Nucleoeléctrica and by the Argentine nuclear industry as a whole.
Against an international backdrop of rising energy demand and a renewed role for nuclear power, the company continues to advance initiatives tied to the export of services, engineering and technological solutions created by Argentine professionals for nuclear power plants in different countries.
The track record built in the operation of Atucha I, Atucha II and Embalse, together with the execution of internationally recognized complex projects, supports this outward reach and strengthens Argentina's place in an industry of global strategic importance.
