Nucleoeléctrica Argentina took part in the FIRST Regional Workshop for Latin America and the Caribbean, a forum for technical and institutional exchange focused on the responsible development of advanced nuclear technologies and on strengthening capabilities in the nuclear sector.

The event, jointly organized by the United States Department of State and the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA), brought together in the City of Buenos Aires representatives of public agencies, companies, specialized institutions and international figures connected to nuclear activity. Participants included delegations from various countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, regulatory bodies, technology companies and government representatives.

The opening session was led by the Secretary of Nuclear Affairs, Dr. Federico Ramos Napoli; the United States Deputy Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and Nonproliferation, Christopher T. Yeaw; and the Political Counsellor of the Embassy of Canada, Jonathan Sauvé. A recorded greeting and welcome from Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno was also screened.

Representing Nucleoeléctrica, the company's president, Juan Martín Campos, took part in the exchange sessions alongside figures from the nuclear industry, specialized bodies and government representatives, contributing the experience Argentina has developed in operating nuclear power plants and in training highly specialized human resources.

"Argentina has the capabilities, experience and knowledge to contribute to the development of the global nuclear industry. Within that ecosystem, Nucleoeléctrica is a versatile company, with capabilities in operation, engineering, design and the training of specialized personnel that allow us to contribute to the challenges the sector faces internationally," Campos said.

The sessions addressed topics related to the development of small modular reactors (SMRs), non-electrical applications of nuclear energy, artificial intelligence applied to the sector, supply chains, technological security and international cooperation to strengthen nuclear programs.

Technical visit to the Atucha Nuclear Complex

As part of the activities of the FIRST Regional Workshop for Latin America and the Caribbean, the international delegation made a technical visit to the Atucha Nuclear Complex, led by the United States Deputy Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and Nonproliferation, Christopher T. Yeaw. The day gave participants a first-hand look at Argentine experience in operating nuclear power plants and in training specialized professionals for the nuclear industry.

The activity began with welcoming remarks from the president of Nucleoeléctrica, Juan Martín Campos, who presented the company's main capabilities and highlighted the role Argentina plays in the development and safe operation of nuclear facilities. He also underlined the importance of international cooperation forums in strengthening the exchange of knowledge and good practices among countries pursuing nuclear programs.

The delegation then toured different areas of the Atucha II Nuclear Power Plant, where they learned about the operational and technological processes involved in nuclear generation. The visit included the control room, the turbine hall and the river water intake area, giving participants a direct view of some of the systems essential to the facility's operation.

The day concluded with a visit to the Atucha II Full Scope Simulator, one of the main tools used for operator training. There, the international representatives were able to observe the methods used to train personnel, as well as the training and assessment processes that help ensure the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.

The meeting was part of international initiatives aimed at promoting technical cooperation, knowledge exchange and institutional strengthening among countries that are pursuing or evaluating the development of new nuclear technologies, consolidating spaces for joint work among public agencies, companies and specialized actors in the sector.
